Sunflower and fish oil intake increases the risk of developing metabolic non-alcoholic steatohepatitis.
Scientists from the University of Granada have found that frequent consumption of sunflower oil or fish oil threatens a person with serious liver problems. Study results were published in the Journal of Nutritional Biochemistry.
University of Granada (in Spanish: Universidad de Granada, abbr. UGR) - State University of Granada, Spain. It was founded according to the papal decree of Clement VII in 1531 on the basis of the madrasah that existed since 1349 and initially had three faculties: theology, art and church law. Currently, there are more than 80 thousand students and 3641 teachers. It is one of the biggest and most prestigious Universities in the country.
Scientists came to such conclusions by conducting experiments on rats. For a long time rodents consumed olive, sunflower and fish oil and scientists monitored changes in the liver with a microscope.
It turned out that the liver was healthier in rats that were fed with olive oil.
Olive oil – vegetable oil obtained from the European olive fruit (lat. Olea europaea). By a fatty acid composition it is a mixture of fatty acid triglycerides with a very high content of oleic acid esters.
At the same time, sunflower oil consumption resulted in fibrosis and ultrastructural changes in a rodent liver.
Sunflower oil is rich in valuable organic compounds: unsaturated fatty acids (oleic, linoleic, linolenic) and saturated fatty acids (stearic, palmitic). It presents in phosphorus-containing substances, tocopherols (vitamin E and its derivatives) and waxes.
As for the fish oil, its consumption increased oxidative processes associated with age and also resulted in telomeres length alteration.
Fish oil is an oily liquid obtained from the cod fish liver. It consists of three main components: vitamin A, vitamin D and omega-3 fatty acids that make fish oil so valuable to human health.
